Mount Olive Baptist Church
1140 6th Street NE (NoMA), Washington, DC 20002
A NoMA congregation founded in 1873 was paying nearly $1,000 a month for electricity. Uprise designed a solar system around the church’s actual usage. The monthly bill is now gone, and the savings are going back into the building.
The challenge
Mount Olive Baptist Church was founded on August 17, 1873, and has served a multigenerational congregation in the heart of NoMA ever since. Before solar, the church’s electric bills averaged nearly $1,000 a month. For a congregation, that is money that could otherwise go toward the building, its programs, and the people it serves.
What Uprise did
We started the way we start every project: with the electric bills. Our team reviewed the church’s past bills to understand how much power the building actually used and when. From there, we designed and installed a custom system sized to maximize clean energy production for that specific building. The array produces 57,123 kWh of electricity a year.
The result
The system eliminated the church’s monthly electric bill, saving more than $12,000 a year. That money is now going back into the church. Leadership has reallocated the savings to repair aging systems and address critical operational concerns.
The same approach works for a home
A church is a bigger building than a house, but the process is the one we use for every homeowner in DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia: review your real electric bills, check whether the roof is ready, design a system sized for your usage, and handle permitting and utility interconnection. If your bills are climbing, we’ll show you what solar would do for your home.
